Nanga Parbat is the World’s ninth and second highest of Pakistan’s five 8000m peaks, it is the westernmost peak of the Great Himalayan range. Actually a 20km long series of peaks and ridges.

Nanga Parbat is known as Diamir in Shina, an archaic Indic language, the name derives from an ancient Indic word devameru, which means the scared mountains of the gods. in Indian cosmology, Devameru, or Mt Meru, is the mythical mountain at the center of the world, the axis of the cosmos and the home of the gods. A journey to this moutnain is a journey to the centre of the universe. Ancient Sanskrit texts describe it as gleaming mountain, soaring to unimaginable heights, and place it north of India, near Central Asia. perhaps there is some reality to this myth, after all
